I remember sitting in one of the back rooms at Equinox on the Upper East Side

We were on a break after a morning of training clients when 𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁..𝗶𝘁

Next thing I knew..

My hoodie was completely pulled over my face & 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙖𝙬𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙫𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙩

He was STUNNED

..had 𝙣𝙤 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖 what was happening inside of me

And I,

had no understanding for this 𝙛𝙖𝙧 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙧 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.

‘𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?’ I cried

‘I don’t understand what happened to me.’

I ran through a list of boyfriends in my head..

‘This happened with Joe.
And John, too.’

IT WASN’T THAT LONG AGO THAT I WAS:
completely locked out of my body

This always made me feel so 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡

I felt like less of a woman

It brought up stories that said:
I wasn’t a $exu@l person
Something was wrong with me
I didn’t know what I was doing
I wasn’t enough
& they were better off with someone else

This happened for 2 REASONS…

1 I didn’t feel 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 or in my $exu@l expression. I grew up with shame around $ex, 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 (wrong, dirty), & a lack of $ex ed (aka ple@$ure)

I picked up on societal cues that told me $ex was for men’s ple@$ure…& my body was there to 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲

It left me 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤...𝐮𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐝...& 𝐮𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝
